How Long Does Food Poisoning Last?
Food Poisoning
The answer to how long does food poisoning last is different in each case. The reality is that it will likely depend on the cause of the illness. It will also depend on the severity of the condition that the individual is experiencing. There are some things that can be done to ensure that the period of time is as short as possible though. There are also some average times that can be useful when assessing a particular condition.
There is one period that is sometimes a factor, but not usually included in the calculation of how long does food poisoning last. That factor is incubation. This is a period that is present in some causes of poisoning by food. It is a period between the time that the contaminated food or beverage is ingested and the time when the individual experiences symptoms. This period may be as long as two to three days in some cases.
The next significant period of time is simply the period in which the symptoms are experienced. This also varies depending on the cause of the food poisoning. In general the symptoms are most commonly approximately forty-eight hours in length. Some cases may last significantly longer, but usually with these cases the individual should consult a doctor.
Each of these may be added together to calculate an average of how long does last? In many cases approximately three to five days from the time that the contaminated food is ingested until the time that the symptoms have reduced to negligible states is decent estimate.
If you experience extreme symptoms such as blood in your stool, you should consult a doctor. Similarly specific segments of the population should consult medical assistance. These segments include the elderly and the very young. These individuals may experience more threatening conditions as a result of food poisoning.
In some areas you may need to drink bottled water and be very selective regarding the food that you eat. Food safety is about your safety.
