Cancer Diagnosis and Symptoms
Cancer is second only to cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in the Western world. Although Cancer is primarily a disease of the elderly, cancer can strike even the youngest of children.
Cancer occurs when there is a growth of cells in the body that are out of control and the cells divide too rapidly. Cancer is able to develop in almost any organ or tissue such as: the lung, colon, breast, skin, bones or nerve tissue.
The causes of Cancer are believed to be a combination of genetic factors and outside carcinogens such as: tobacco, viruses, infection, asbestos, vinyl chloride and inappropriate diet.

What is the Purpose of Hospice Care?
Hospice is a type of care that focuses on the palliative care a terminally ill patient’s symptoms. These symptoms can be physical, emotional, spiritual or social in nature.
Hospices are places of hospitality for the sick, wounded, or dying. The modern concept of hospice includes palliative care for the incurably ill given in such institutions as hospitals or nursing homes but also care provided to those who would rather die in their own homes.

Diagnosing Cancer Through Laboratory Testing
The diagnosis of cancer can send chills up anyone’s spine. Whenever a person hears the word coming from his/her doctor, a feeling of dread and sometimes, impending doom can overcome them. After all, nobody in their right mind would be happy to learn they have been diagnosed with cancer?
Before giving any diagnosis of cancer to a patient, doctors would order the patient to go through some tests. These laboratory testing services include blood tests, tumor markers, and urinalysis.

Cancer
Cancer is medically known as malignant neoplasm or new growth. It involves a cluster of cells that display an unrestrained growth. This is a division beyond e normal limits, intrusion and damage of adjacent tissues and the spread via blood or lymph, to other places.
In most of the cases of cancer, it is identified based on symptoms and the actual diagnosis is confirmed by a pathologist. If a diagnosis of cancer is suspected, the patient will go through a battery of tests that include: blood analysis, X-rays, CT scans, MRI and endoscopy.

Cancer Remission
What is Cancer Remission?
Most commonly people seem to believe that going into remission means that the patient is successfully treated and safe.
According to the American Cancer Society, cancer remission is a “period of time when the cancer is responding to treatment or is under control”.
In a complete cancer remission, all the signs and symptoms of the disease disappear. Complete cancer remissions may continue for several years and be considered cures.

Malignant Tumors
What are the 4 Types of Malignant Tumors?
Cancer can be either malignant or benign.
Based on the type or varieties of cells that make up the tumor and features of those tumors, they are classified as: carcinomas, sarcomas, lymphomas and leukemias.
There are numerous types of examinations to confirm if a cancer is present and which types of cancer a patient has.
Carcinomas: These types of tumors usually form in the tissues that contain epithelium.

Chemotherapy and Radiation
Chemotherapy is an effective treatment when used with other cancer treatments to stop the growth of cancer cells.
This type of treatment is normally given either in the form of a pill or administered intravenously.
The duration of the chemotherapy depends on the type cancer and the drugs used.
Chemotherapy is used either before or after surgery when treating certain types of cancer. Your doctor decides the duration and the type of chemotherapy you will receive.
Radiation is used to help lower the cancer pain in some circumstances.
