GERD
Is GERD Really Dangerous?
There is a tendency for most people to think, it’s just heartburn. I’ll just use an antacid and be fine or I will just live with it.
For someone who has mild symptoms but frequent episodes, it can lead to problems, even very serious problems.
1. Consider the severity of the pain and discomfort. More severe episodes of reflux do tend to cause more severe discomfort.
2. Frequency of symptoms. If symptoms only occur every several months, that is not as serious as when symptoms occur on a daily or even more frequent basis.

Gerd or Acid Reflux
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or acid reflux occurs when the esophageal sphincter fails to remain closed and allows acid from the stomach to travel back into the esophagus. There are multiple theories as to why this can happen.
It is believed that the tissue structure of esophageal sphincter is compromised by any of the following factors:
- Overeating which can cause an excess amount of stomach acid to be produced
- Eating foods or drinking beverages which contain high acid content
- Digestion of stomach’s content is delayed
- Diminished production of saliva

Gerd
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric reflux disease, or acid reflux disease is a chronic symptom of mucosal damage caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus. A typical symptom is heartburn.
GERD is usually caused by changes in the barrier between the stomach and the esophagus, including abnormal relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter, which normally holds the top of the stomach closed. This can impair the expulsion of the gastric reflux from the esophagus. These changes may be permanent or temporary.
